Rosalind had always been a dreamer, a romantic. Unlike her sister Kate, Rosalind believed in true love. She also believed that true love was a matter of destiny. Her parents were never meant to be together. Their divorce was proof of this fact.
Rosalind devoted her life to the study of the subtle workings of romance and did whatever she could to further its cause. She always had an eye out for who might work well together as a couple and always seemed to notice if a young man was taking long glances at a young lady or if a young lady was looking a little shy and bashful when a certain young man walked by. When she saw these things she was always there to offer encouragement where encouragement was due.
In addition to studying the romance that was going on around her, Rosalind made a point of reading all the best books on the subject. Anything that involved two people whose very breath depended on each other Rosalind considered very fine and worthwhile reading. She did not hesitate to recommend these books to her sisters and friends, but oddly enough, they rarely ever wanted to read them.
But for all of Rosalind's study of romance and the expertness with which she perceived the partialities of others, Rosalind remained sadly oblivious whenever a young man had his eye on her. It simply never occurred to her that she could be the object of a boy's affections right now. Of course romance would come, but it would come later. Right now she just wanted to get everyone else married off and foremost on her mind were her mother and all her older sisters. She wasn't worried about Cleopatra and Alexis because Cleopatra always had ten boys after her and Alexis always had a boyfriend. But Kate and Amy were going to need a little help. Kate was a devout man hater for reasons incomprehensible to Rosalind and Amy never liked any of the guys who liked her. At least Amy wasn't against guys in general. This facet of Kate's character would make her the toughest case Rosalind had ever faced, but she was determined that Kate would relinquish her bitterness and find true love in the end. It happened in books all the time, so Rosalind was sure it would happen for her sister.
